Julian Soja, owner and designer of Soyaton, a member of the Krakow Sonic Society, has just become an owner of a top-of-the-line turntable from J.Sikora, the Reference model. So we met to listen to what it has changed in his system. And for the meeting we invited Mr. Janusz and Mr. Robert Sikora, responsible for - respectively - designs and company management.

ften asked if we have good time during our KSS meetings, I answer that we have absolutely splendid time. We meet with people we like, we are interested in each other and in new records as well as old album reissues, we like wine which we strive to consume regularly. The music we listen to is played on top notch audio equipment. It would be very ungrateful to claim otherwise and equally unfair to say that I have some kind of issues with the KSS. The other thing is that each one of us uses the opportunity and makes their own deals – deals associated with music and audio gear, of course. A significant proportion of our joint auditions are devoted to things that aspire to be integrated into our own audio systems, to the records that have the ambition to replace the old editions in our collections. One can go even further and say that they are a denial of the very idea of a speaker – speakers of that type are just asking for such a comment. The whole point about audio playback is to convey as much as possible information recorded on analog or digital tape, or in computer memory. That, in addition to such characteristics as dynamics, color, differentiation, resolution, selectivity and consistency, also means the widest possible frequency response. The latter is inextricably linked to a large speaker cabinet and sizeable woofers. In other words, exactly the two components that are eliminated in the standmount speakers at the outset. A question might be asked, what about a kind of standmount monsters, such as the Harbeth M40.1, the SP100R2 from Spendor, the BB5 from PMC, or the SCM150 from ATC. After all, ...

Published: 1. February 2013, No. 105 Our audition that took place in mid-December 2012 brought us one step closer to the 100th anniversary of the first meeting in this formula. We still have about two years to go (14 meetings) but on the other hand eight years are already behind us. It might therefore seem that we got bored, that we know everything about ourselves and audio equipment. That we have already heard and seen everything. KSS RULEZ and all. Any thinking and refined person would not find it difficult, however, to respond to such statements with a shrug. Every peak, every top, every “wall” we face eventually gives way to something even stronger, bigger, better. Yet these stops are necessary.
